Just swapped out my truck tires because the rubber was getting too hard, even though they had at least 10k miles left on them. Even light acceleration caused them to chirp. It feels like a new truck now.

DOT dates are told to every customer that come in for service. If over 5 years old, including spare if aplc., we recommend tires or have the customer sign off that we notified them.

Winter of 2008 or 2009 at my old job. I noted the DOT date on the ticket of a man, his wife, and their toddler getting their Lexus GX 470 serviced. The tires were old and prices for replacements were given. The service adviser DID NOT mention this to the customer.

On their long way back home to the South Texas Valley, on of their tire failed and the vehicle rolled. The toddler did not survive.

A huge legal thing happened afterward and it was further enforced to inspect DOT dates and state if tire along with tread wear

link

a link to date code explainer (or google your own)

Short summary: (see EL_ULY for a very helpful graphic below)

- look for “DOT” and the last code bubble following that is the date code

- anything with a 3 digit code is pre-2000 (and way too old)

- four digit code is 2-digits for week (01-52) and 2 digits for year (00 thru 17 presumably)

Be safe, fellow Oppos
